Dumping Illiana saved nature refuge

It's encouraging that Gov. Rauner dumped the economically risky and detrimental Illiana expressway plan.

The decision can hopefully help to permanently protect the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. This vast and wondrous nature haven is home for 16 endangered and threatened species.

It's also a refuge for dozens of species of wild mammals, reptiles, amphibians, aquatic creatures and over 100 breeding bird species.

Conserving wildlife and preserving nature is more important than a misguided and costly expressway scheme.
