Elmhurst Hospital breaks ground in Hinsdale

Construction has started on the Elmhurst Hospital Hinsdale Health Center, a $20 million, three-floor, 33,000-square-foot facility.

Scheduled to open in mid-2016, the center will provide immediate care, primary care, behavioral health, digital imaging, lab, rehabilitation and physical therapy, and occupational health services.

"We're excited to become part of the Hinsdale community and bring a full array of Elmhurst Hospital outpatient services to the area," said Mary Lou Mastro, president and CEO of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare. "We're offering high quality health care close to home so it's more convenient for the residents of Hinsdale to meet their medical needs."

"On behalf of the village of Hinsdale, I am pleased to welcome Elmhurst Hospital to the Hinsdale community," said Tom Cauley, Hinsdale village president. "The village appreciates that Elmhurst Hospital has decided to invest in our community."

Elmhurst Hospital and developer MedProperties Group had a groundbreaking ceremony June 24 to mark the beginning of the project, the latest addition to MedProperties' five-building, 200,000-square-foot, 16-acre Salt Creek Medical Campus in Hinsdale. Elmhurst Hospital joins other local and regional health care providers on the campus at Ogden Avenue and Interstate 294.

"Adding this great health system to the campus complements the rich mixture of local and national health care providers in this beautiful suburban campus setting in what is arguably the premier outpatient medical campus in the Midwest," said Matthew Campbell, CEO of MedProperties.

In addition to Elmhurst Hospital and MedProperties, other Hinsdale Health Center project team members include CBRE (tenant representative and corporate real estate adviser), Eckenhoff Saunders Architects and Executive Construction Inc.

The center's first floor will house:

• Elmhurst Hospital Immediate Care: Treatment for minor injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening such as cuts that may need stitches; minor burns and abrasions; broken bones, sprains and strains; high fevers, sore throats and earaches; allergies and minor skin rashes; minor back, joint/muscle pain and work-related illnesses and injuries.

• Imaging: A full array of radiology services, including digital X-ray, mammogram and ultrasound and low-dose CT scans.

• Lab, rehabilitation and physical therapy, and occupational health.

The center's second floor will be home to Linden Oaks Behavioral Health, which provides treatment for anxiety disorders, chemical dependency, addiction, depression, eating disorders, geriatric conditions and self-injury. Elmhurst Hospital primary care physicians will have offices on the third floor.

In 2011, Elmhurst Hospital opened a new 259-bed, 866,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art acute care hospital at 155 E. Brush Hill Road, Elmhurst. Elmhurst Hospital incorporates the latest trends in health care facility design and is home to some of the area's most advanced technology.

Elmhurst Hospital is one of 20 acute care hospitals worldwide designated as a Planetree, patient-centered health care organization, and is No. 8 on Soliant Health's list of Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. for 2015.

Elmhurst Hospital provides health care services in numerous communities throughout the Western suburbs, including Addison, Bloomingdale, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lombard, Oak Park, River Forest, Westchester and Westmont.
