Reported gas leak forces evacuation of 10 Wheeling homes
Wheeling firefighters and NICOR crews responded to a reported gas leak this morning that forced the evacuation of 10 homes on the village's north side.
The leak occurred along Glendale Street, northwest of the intersection of Dundee and Wolf roads.
A witness reported that police were going door to door asking residents of the area to leave their homes while crews worked to shut off the leak and make the area safe. The witness reported that construction crews had been working in the area before the leak.
