Handbell Ensemble director at Christ Church retires

The Christ Church Handbell Ensemble in Des Plaines presented a Handbell Cantata Sunday, May 31, which marked the last performance of the Handbell Ensemble with Bob Schumm as its director.

Schumm is ending 41 years of music ministry and relocating to Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife, Rita. He has played bells, directed the bell choir, sung with the chancel choir and been a soloist. On occasion he has been called upon to fill in at the piano or organ. His contributions to Christ Church will be missed.

The Cantata was titled "Just a Closer Walk - Spirituals Through the Years." It included favorites like "Jacob's Ladder," "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho," "Kum Ba Yah" and "This Little Light of Mine."

Elyse Paulus-Mount narrated the performance.
