Athletic field on Brainerd site approved

Plans by Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 for a multipurpose athletic field with synthetic turf at the site of the demolished former Libertyville High School and Jackson Gym will proceed with the official approval of the village board.

School officials modified the architecture of a proposed storage building at Brainerd Avenue and Route 176 (Park Avenue) and agreed to other conditions in regard to open space, fence and sign requirements.

The village board on Tuesday voted 5-0 to approve the ordinances that will allow the $4 million project to proceed. The field will be used for football, lacrosse and soccer games and practice.

The buildings were demolished this past spring after a years long effort to raise taxes to convert them to a community center was rejected by voters.
