'Weeding party' at Geneva's city hall gardens

Geneva's Swedish Days is next week, and with throngs of visitors sure to be coming through the picturesque downtown for the event, Administrator Mary McKittrick invited volunteers to come out and spruce up the city hall gardens.

About a dozen volunteers - including many city employees - rolled up their sleeves and donned gardening gloves for a one-hour "weeding party." Recent rainstorms have made it a challenge to keep up with weeding. The team, though, made quick work of the task and produced large piles of weeds to show for their efforts.

"This is for the community, and we hope that during Swedish Days - or after - people come to city hall and sit ... and enjoy the gardens and just soak it all in," McKittrick said.
