Carpentersville boy charged with attempted murder

A 14-year-old Carpentersville boy is being charged with attempted murder after shots were fired at two women in a parking lot of an apartment complex on the 1900 block of North Green Lane in Palatine.

Palatine police said in a news release the two victims - a 21-year-old Lombard woman and a 23-year-old Palatine woman - were in their car about to leave the apartment complex when a vehicle slowly drove by them. The victims said there were several males in the vehicle who flashed gang signs at them.

The 14-year-old boy, whom the victims knew to be a gang member, then stepped out of the car and pulled a black handgun from his waistband, police said. As the victims sped away, they heard gunshots.

The boy was arrested June 12 and is being tried in juvenile court on charges of attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm, police said. The shooting happened on June 11. An email glitch prevented the Daily Herald from receiving a release about the shooting until Friday.
