Concert series kicks off in Libertyville

The Lake County Forest Preserve District began its Events in the Plaza concert series at Independence Grove Forest Preserve Tuesday, June 16, with a performance of bluegrass, country, rockabilly and more by the Dang-Its. The concert series continues at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 4.

Concert goers are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs and pack a picnic, or purchase a light dinner, snack or beverage from the preserve's walk-up cafe.

Parking is $6 per car after 5 p.m. on concert days for all preserve visitors; cars will be turned away when parking is full. With the exception of service animals, pets are not permitted. There are no rain dates.

Independence Grove Forest Preserve is at 16400 W. Buckley Road in Libertyville, between Milwaukee Avenue and North River Road.

The schedule of upcoming concerts is:

• June 23, Adam Ezra Group; rock music.

• June 30, The Flat Cats: jazz, blues, contemporary classics and timeless standards.

• July 7, RockStar Rodeo: modern, pop, country and rock hits.

• July 14, The Cavern Beat: Beatles tribute band.

• July 21, John Primer: blues and R&B.

• July 28, Rico: "Afro-Cuban rhythms," influenced by Santana.

• Aug. 4, R-Gang: Motown-era, R&B, funk and soul dance band.
