Dense fog advisory until 10 a.m.; rain possible before 2 p.m.

A dense fog advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for northern Illinois, including the counties of Lake, Cook, DuPage, Kane and McHenry counties, meteorologists say.

Areas of dense fog may be encountered early, officials from the National Weather Service are reporting on their website at weather.gov. Visibility could be reduced to less than 1 mile in some areas.

Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms moving through this morning in combination with approaching rain and thunderstorms will cause the fog to disappear later this morning.

After the fog moves on, the National Weather Service forecasts a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m. It will turn partly sunny with a high near 82.
