Police say car knocked into Fox River in domestic situation

An Aurora man has been charged with domestic battery after knocking a car containing a female acquaintance into the Fox River Wednesday, according to North Aurora police department news release.

The release did not name the man.

The release did not specify the relationship between the woman and the defendant.

Police say that a woman, 46, and a man, 48, both of Aurora, were sitting in a Nissan Maxima in Island Park on the south side of State Street at around 12:30 a.m. when the defendant drove into the park in a Nissan Pathfinder.

The couple sped out of Island Park, but the Pathfinder hit the Maxima, sending it to the north side of State Street, according to police.

The car crashed through a fence, went down a hill and landed in the river, about 25 feet from the east bank.

The victims escaped the vehicle. The woman was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora with non-life-threatening injuries.

The car was removed late Wednesday afternoon.

Bail was set Wednesday at $5,000, and the defendant posted $500 bond to be released.
