New logos honor Elk Grove's 60th anniversary

Preparations are underway for Elk Grove Village's 60th anniversary, and soon you'll be seeing evidence of that on cars throughout town, and other prominent spots in the community.

Village leaders this week decided on the official logo of the 60th anniversary, to be used in promotional materials, on T-shirts and publications.

Some 80 Elk Grove residents and business owners submitted designs for the official logo. The winning entry came from Dave Hartmann, whose "60" design features the years "1956" and "2016" on a ribbon and surrounded by "Elk Grove Village 60th Anniversary". He won a $500 Visa gift card from the village for the effort.

Officials also chose a winner in a separate contest to design a 2016 vehicle sticker that recognizes the village's birthday.

The winning design is the work of Quentin Woehler, a fifth grader at Salt Creek Elementary School. His artwork features the village's signature elk and clock tower between the library and municipal complex. A total of 30 students in first through eighth grades submitted vehicle sticker drawings. Quentin was awarded a $200 gift card.

The vehicle stickers will go out next May.

The village is kicking off its yearlong celebration of its 60th with a tree-lighting ceremony and Lee DeWyze concert on Nov. 27.

On July 17, 2016 - the 60th anniversary of the village's date of incorporation - a picnic, concert and fireworks show is planned at Lions Park, the site of this weekend's RotaryFest. An Oktoberfest celebration also is planned for the fall of 2016.
