St. Charles mayor to vie for Golden Baton Award in 'Maestro Mashup'

St. Charles Mayor Ray Rogina will take a break from conducting city council meetings to conduct a special performance of the Fox Valley Philharmonic Orchestra at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the Peg Bond Pavilion in Batavia, 151 Island Ave. in Batavia.

Mayor Rogina will conduct the American classic "Stars and Stripes Forever," along with mayors Jeff Schielke of Batavia, Kevin Burns of Geneva and Tom Weisner of Aurora, as they vie for the "Golden Baton Award." Come out and cheer Mayor Rogina on at this free event.

The program also will include music from the movies "Frozen" and "The Sound of Music," Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" featuring real cannons, a tribute to the armed forces, and much more.

Mayor Rogina is looking forward to this year's event and knows he is in good company. "I am proud to represent St. Charles and hope that what I learned conducting at last year's event will give me an edge over my esteemed and respected fellow mayors," Rogina said.
