Des Plaines alderman Sayad found guilty of trespassing

Des Plaines Alderman Dick Sayad was found guilty yesterday of misdemeanor criminal trespassing for walking into a resident's home unannounced last February. The city's 4th Ward alderman was sentenced to 18 months of court supervision, fined $500 and ordered to pay $869 in court costs and fees. Full story.

Rafter rescued from tree in DuPage River in Naperville

A 19-year-old man who was rafting down the swollen DuPage River with two other teenagers yesterday got stuck in a tree in Naperville but was rescued without injury, authorities said. The three teens were in an inflatable raft without life jackets when the raft capsized just east of the covered bridge near the Riverwalk Eatery. Full story with video.

Identity of witnesses in Hastert case to stay secret

The identities of potential witnesses in the case against former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert - including so-called Individual A - will be kept secret, a U.S. District judge ruled. Transit agencies fear possible cuts from budget impasse

Transit agencies are nervous as the collateral damage from a feud between Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrat leaders involves cuts to Metra, Pace and the Chicago Transit Authority. Suspension of the reduced-fare subsidy would amount to between $17.5 million and $25 million, RTA spokeswoman Susan Massel said. "We are troubled by the governor's decision to suspend state payments used to fund these mandated programs," Massel said. Full story.

Pedestrian struck, killed in Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck Tuesday morning crossing Route 31. Crystal Lake police said the pedestrian was hit as he crossed Route 31 just north of the intersection with Route 176 at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday. Full story.

Pirates shut out White Sox again
