Glen Ellyn lifts boil order for drinking water

Glen Ellyn has lifted the boil order for drinking water it issued Tuesday after a large water main broke at the Roosevelt Road crossing near the DuPage River.

Officials said a lab tested 33 water samples and found them all to be free of bacteria growth, which means the water is safe for human consumption. No further precautionary measures are required, they said.

The boil order had affected areas bounded by Roosevelt Road to the south, Baker Hill Drive to the west, Route 53 to the north and Finley Road to the east.

Officials said the order originally was issued because the area experienced a drop in overall water pressure that may have gone under the 20 pounds per square inch required by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
