Boomers win 9-7 over Freedom in extras

The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers captured a road series over the Florence Freedom by notching a 9-7 win in 12 innings.

With the game tied at 4-4, Schaumburg scored five times in extras to tally the decision. Jordan Dean singled home the first go-ahead run in the 11th with the international tiebreaker in effect. Craig Massey followed with a two-run homer to make the score 7-4. Florence was able to score three times in the bottom of the frame to force another extra inning. Sam Lind plated the winning run with an RBI single and Justin Vasquez also added an RBI single in the inning. Kamakani Usui came on to close out the win and become the sixth pitcher to save a game this season.

Eddie Cody worked into the eighth, leaving with the lead. Cody struck out eight to match a career and season high and did not walk a batter. Hideyoshi Otake earned the win with 3.1 innings of relief.
