Cougars shut out by Captains 8-0

The Kane County Cougars were shut out for the fifth time this season as the Lake County Captains won 8-0 at Classic Park Sunday afternoon. Lake County took the first two games of the series scoring a total of 13 unanswered runs.

Bobby Bradley hit his second consecutive three-run homer off of Cougars' pitching in the first inning. Bradley drilled an opposite field three-run smash against Cougar starter Ethan Elias (6-3) over the left field wall for a 3-0 Lake County Lead.

The Cougars (31-32) had their best chance at scoring in the top of the second inning with one out, but Captain starter Sean Brady (5-3) struck out Henry Castillo and got Victor Reyes to ground out to end the threat.

Brady went on to toss six shutout innings with only two hits allowed and six strikeouts.

Bradley's three-run homer is all Lake County (34-28) needed, but the Captains offense grabbed runs in the second, fifth and eighth innings.

Claudio Bautista's 2-run double in the second made it 5-0, while Martin Cervenka and Yonathan Mendoza connected on back-to-back home runs for the final 8-0 lead.

Tom Jameson tossed 2⅔ innings of relief baseball and helped produce a pair of ground ball double plays.

The Cougars conclude their road trip and series with the Captains on Monday evening. Right-hander Brad Keller (2-7, 2.90) will take the mound against Lake County's lefty Anderson Polanco (3-5, 3.92). The first pitch from Classic Park is scheduled for 6 p.m.
