Exchange Club of Grayslake Awards Book of Golden Deeds

Volunteer efforts are very important to our society and should not go unnoticed. The National Exchange Club's longest running project, the Book of Golden Deeds Award, recognizes dedicated volunteers who give endless hours of their time and talents toward making their communities better places to live. Ever since the Exchange Club of Huntington, Ind., sponsored the first award in 1919, thousands of unsung heroes and heroines have been recognized.

This year the Exchange Club of Grayslake was proud to honor Michael Pruitt as their Book of Golden Deeds Recipient.

Michael grew Up in Grayslake and attended Grayslake Community High School, CLC and Kendall College.

When he was only 22, The Vine of Grayslake was launched as a martini and tapas bar and is currently being remodeled to meet the increase in customer demand.

Mike has won several awards over the years since first opening the Vine:

2009 Grayslake Business of the Year

2011 Grayslake Volunteer of the Year

2011 Grayslake Exchange Club And Lincolnland District Distinguished Service Award

2011 Reader's Choice - 9 Categories

2012 One of Ten Outstanding Young People In Illinois

2012 One of ten Outstanding Young Americans nationally

2012 one of lake county's 10 most intriguing people

2012 Round Lake Area Park District community service award

2013 Daily Herald reader's choice in 4 categories

2013 Lake County Journal Forefront Award

Currently Mike is on the board of directors for the Grayslake Farmers Market, the Grayslake library Foundation board, and serves as a Director on the board of the Grayslake Youth Center/the Oasis where he organizes the Oasis car show, the golf outing, and the Downtown Rib Throwdown.

Wanting to create a local craft beer festival, Mike got on the phone and through a well-coordinated effort, the Exchange Club of Grayslake and Grayslake Chamber of Commerce gave birth to the most successful fundraiser Grayslake has ever had - awarding nearly $100,000 in local scholarships in only two years.

Through all his efforts, we see that Mike is the epitome of a volunteer and well deserving of the Book of Golden Deeds. Mike has helped to raise money for so many in need in our community, and he continues to do so.

Exchange, America's Service Club, is a group of men and women working together to make our communities better places to live through programs of service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities, and its national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse.

We meet weekly on Thursdays at Whitney Street Restaurant in

Downtown Grayslake at 1:00.
