Boomers fall short 6-1 at Windy City

The Schaumburg Boomers could not overcome an early hole Thursday night in a 6-1 loss to the host Windy City ThunderBolts.

Windy City scored in the first and added 2 on a home run from Ryan Deitrich in the second against Schaumburg starter Anthony Gomez. Gomez worked just 1⅔ innings. Zach Wendorf kept the Boomers in the game by tossing 4⅓ innings and allowing just an unearned run.

Garrett Gordon tripled home a run in the fourth to bring Schaumburg within 3-1, but Windy City scored a run in the fifth and 2 in the seventh to put the game away. Gordon finished with 2 hits as the Boomers managed only 5 total. Schaumburg has tripled in three consecutive games.

The Boomers (10-14) continue the road trip in Kentucky on Friday night with a 6:05 p.m. game against the Florence Freedom. RHP Brett Mabry (1-1, 4.03) takes the ball in the opener.
