Munoz powers Cougars to 9-3 win
Just three games ago Stryker Trahan became the first Cougars player to record a multihomer game.
Thursday night Joe Munoz accomplished the feat with 2 home runs in the Kane County Cougars' 9-3 victory over the host Fort Wayne Tin Caps at Parkview Field.
Ryan Hutchison quickly gave the Cougars the lead with a 2-run double down the right-field line in the second inning. Two batters later Victor Reyes made it a 3-0 cushion with a run-scoring single. Munoz finished 4-for-4 with 4 runs and became the third Cougar this season with at least 5 RBI.
Markus Solbach (6-2) picked up the win for his seventh quality start, finishing with 6 innings of 3-run baseball.
Luis Ramirez, Cody Geyer and Nick Baker each worked scoreless relief innings.
ThunderBolts 6, Boomers 1:
The Schaumburg Boomers could not overcome an early hole against the host Windy City ThunderBolts.
Windy City scored in the first and added 2 on a home run from Ryan Deitrich in the second against Schaumburg starter Anthony Gomez. Gomez worked just 1⅔ innings.
Zach Wendorf kept the Boomers in the game by tossing 4⅓ innings and allowing just an unearned run.
Michael Kelly (2-1) suffered the loss with 7 earned runs through 4⅔ innings.
The Cougars and Tin Caps wrap up the series Friday. Wei-Chieh Huang (3-0, 0.51) will take the mound against Tin Cap left-hander Thomas Dorminy (5-4, 3.38). First pitch from Parkview Field is 6:05 p.m.
