Round Lake High School gets new panther logo

Story updated to reflect voters selected color version of panther.

Round Lake High School will get a fresh panther head logo when the 2015-16 academic year begins.

Students, alumni, employees and residents of Round Lake Area Unit District 116 were invited to participate in an online vote to select one of two logos representing the high school's Panthers nickname. The vote went a little more than two weeks and closed Friday, June 5.

District 116 spokeswoman Heather Bennett said Tuesday the voters decided on a slightly thinner head with school colors of blue and gold while also showing teeth. By a 1,124 to 815 vote, the color version topped a black-and-white panther head with its mouth wide open showing teeth.

"The results echo what we have been hearing for some time about how people would like to see a new and fresh look in the panther," Bennett said. "I'm glad the community came forward to cast their votes. We look forward to phasing in the new panther across the school, including artwork, apparel, uniforms, stationary (and) web."

With a major high school renovation and expansion about to start, District 116 officials said the time is right to have a professionally designed Panther logo for sports and other endeavors. A groundbreaking ceremony for the high school work is set for Monday, June 15.

Round Lake High's panther has not had any consistency over the years, officials said. District 116 paid $712 to Grand Marketing Solutions in Lake Bluff for the design, development and editing of the two logos that went to the online voters.
