Wood Dale used car dealer moving to Palatine

Automaniac, a used car dealer, is moving from West suburban Wood Dale to a larger location at 2296 N. Rand Road in Palatine.

The company will move this month into the 6,200-square-foot building and 1-acre lot that once was home to Anything With Wheels.

According to village documents, the company intends to grow in the new space, located near other auto dealerships.

Automaniac's owners plan to maintain an initial inventory of about 18 vehicles, domestic and foreign, with prices ranging from $3,000 to $14,000. That number could grow to 50 vehicles by the end of the first year and 100 by the second and third year, according to village documents.

The dealership also intends to double its number of employees from three to six by the end of the first year.

Ben Vyverburg, the village's director of planning and zoning, said although the auto dealer is within the boundaries of a Tax Increment Financing district, there is no plan to make TIF funding available to the business.

A representative from Automaniac could not be reached for comment Tuesday, but a message on their website says their Wood Dale location is closed and the business will reopen June 15.

The Palatine village council unanimously approved the plan at their meeting Monday night.
