Registration open for Gambol Through the Grove fundraiser
Hyatt's Second Annual Gambol Through the Grove fundraiser will come to Libertyville at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 28.
The 5K run/fun walk will follow a 3.1-mile course through the Independence Grove Lake County Forest Preserve, Buckley Road and Milwaukee Avenue. It is hosted by Hyatt's Angels, a not-for-profit charity established in 2012 to provide financial and emotional assistance to parents who have lost a child.
Runners and walkers are invited to register in advance online for a discounted fee of $25. Participants also may register on-site for $30 beginning at 7 a.m. race day. All participants will receive a Hyatt's Angels T-shirt, giveaways, and refreshments. The overall male and female winners, as well as the winners of several different age categories and all children younger than 9, will receive an award.
Title sponsor for the event is Elk Grove Village-based Fastmore Logistics. The company donated $1,000 to the inaugural Hyatt's Angels Libertyville event in October 2014 and fielded a team of runners that included employees, family and friends.
Hyatt's Angels was established in 2012 by Doug and Samantha Fleegle in memory of their infant son, Hyatt Walker Fleegle. This special charity assists grieving parents by covering a child's burial expenses and providing emotional support.
Since the founding of Hyatt's Angels, the funeral expenses of 14 children have been funded. In addition, Hyatt's Angels made sizable contributions to the child care center Hyatt Fleegle would have attended, as well as to the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep photography service that works through hospitals with parents who lose an infant at birth.
Samantha Strauts Fleegle is a former Libertyville resident and a graduate of Libertyville High School. She and her husband also have established Hyatt's Run With the Angels 5K Run/Fun Walk fundraisers in Orlando, Florida; Jennerstown, Pennsylvania; and Statesville, North Carolina.
