Schaumburg Boomers bust loose for 13-4 win
The Schaumburg Boomers used a 6-run seventh inning Sunday to pull away from the visiting Frontier Greys and capture the weekend series with a 13-4 victory.
The Boomers scored single runs in the first and second to lead 2-0. Steve McQuail lifted a sacrifice fly in the first and Sam Lind tacked on an RBI single in the second. The Greys tied the game with 3 runs against Schaumburg starter Eddie Cody in the fifth. The bats finally broke through in the seventh as the Boomers pulled away. Jordan Dean tripled to right, scoring Mike Schulze with the go-ahead run. Craig Massey posted a 2-run single in the inning, Justin Vasquez lifted a sacrifice fly, and Schulze notched an RBI double. The Boomers sent 11 men to the plate in the inning and batted around again in the eighth to account for the final, scoring 5 runs, 3 on a Massey double.
Cody improved to 4-0 by working 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. Massey finished with 5 RBI. Schaumburg drew a season-high 11 walks as all members of the lineup reached base. Lind reached five times with 3 hits. Dean also posted 3 hits.
The Boomers (10-12) will enjoy consecutive off-days before opening a five-game road trip Wednesday at Windy City. RHP Edwin Carl (0-2, 5.09) takes the ball for the Boomers against LHP Jake Fisher (1-2, 3.91).
