Aurora woman charged with DUI after crash injures another driver

A 35-year-old Aurora woman was charged with driving under the influence after police say she caused a crash in Naperville early Sunday morning that injured another driver.

Sholanda M. Harris also faces an improper lane usage charge stemming from the two-vehicle crash, which authorities say occurred at 6:45 a.m. at Raymond Drive and Queensgreen Circle, near the McDowell Grove County Forest Preserve.

According to Naperville police, Harris was driving a 2010 Mercury southbound on Raymond when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with a 2005 Honda driven by a 33-year-old Bolingbrook woman.

The Honda's driver was extricated from the badly damaged vehicle by the Naperville Fire Department and taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville with serious injuries, police said. There were no passengers in either vehicle and no other injuries were reported.

The Naperville Police Department's Traffic Unit responded to the scene and Raymond Drive was closed from Queensgreen Circle to Redfield Road until about 10:30 a.m. while they investigated.

Harris was given a July 14 court date, police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any additional information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Naperville Police Department's Traffic Unit at (630) 305-5379 or email parcelk@naperville.il.us.
