Scratching up bargains at Kane County Flea Market

It's never a bad day for a bargain.

Kane County Flea Market organizers tout their treasures by saying, "We are the place movie studios, celebrities and collectors go to get their monthly dose of fun and discovery."

Hundreds of dealers come to the fairgrounds 10 months a year to sell their wares. With rare exceptions, the flea market is held on the first Sunday of the month and the preceding Saturday.

Shoppers donned in floppy sun hats towing wagons and rolling carts filled with purchases buzzed about the fairgrounds Saturday in the open air market and slipped into the small barns looking for their next discovery. The entrance of the swine barn had crystal chandeliers hanging down, sparking as the sunshine hit them. Susan Minger of Naperville came to the market to specifically get several fern plants for her home. She was also buying for her sister and a friend, upon their request. She says she enjoys coming in June and September markets for flowers and plants, but looks for everything including antiques, furniture and jewelry. What keeps her coming back? "I just think the vast array of things. There's everting from new to old-just the variety of it."

The next flea market is noon to 5 p.m. July 4 and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 5 at the fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. Admission is $5 for adults and free for kids 12 and younger. Parking is also free.

If interested in selling at the market, or for more information, visit kanecountyfleamarket.com or call (630) 377-2252.
