Sandburg eighth-graders 3rd in state in The Stock Market Game

Four eighth-graders in John Stoesser's history class at Carl Sandburg Junior High recently earned third place in the regional competition for The Stock Market Game.

In The Stock Market Game, teams of three or four students trade stocks in a real-time, online simulation. The teams begin with a portfolio of $100,000 and are to invest the money in an effort to see which teams can increase the value of their portfolios the most. The competition began in October and ended in mid-April.

When the contest concluded earlier this spring, Sandburg eighth-graders Montserrat D., Daisy G., Lucas P., and Julia P., earned third place out of 514 Illinois students in grades four-eight. Their portfolio earned more than $28,000 in approximately six months. The students will be honored with a certificate from The Stock Market Game, and from the school, and they will each receive a $5 McDonald's gift card, a bag of gold chocolate coins and an understanding of money management.
