Warren Township team wins lacrosse championship

The Warren Area Lacrosse Association, a Gurnee Park District affiliate, is proud to announce that the Warren Township High School Boys Varsity Team won the Class B Lacrosse Cup State Championship Saturday, May 30, against Maine South 7-6 at Naperville Central High School field in Naperville.
The win was secured in an overtime sudden death goal.
When asked about this accomplishment, Greg Janczak, WALA head coach, said, "The team came together to battle through a tough schedule both during and after the post season (overall 20-2). The weather in the stadium was cold and rainy and players and fans alike were soaked through, but nothing was going to stop our boys.
"During regulation play we saw a tremendous team effort and were rewarded with outstanding performances from Tanner James (four goals) Jeremiah Heredia (outstanding saves) and, of course, the sudden death goal from Charlie Hildestad.
"Maine South was a solid opponent and the one goal differential win is reflective of the back and forth aspect of the game."
Paul Nielander for WALA added, "I wish to extend my praises to every member of the WALA Boys Varsity Team, including head coach Greg Janczak and coaches Mike Eddy, Jeff Brongiel, Dan Ryan and Justin Vanschaick, for their commitment to athletic excellence and desire to give their all this season. As a result, the team will now move up to a Class A division for the 2016 season."
