Caretaker accused of stealing elderly victim's identity, credit card

A 21-year-old Dolton woman has been indicted on charges she stole the identity of the elderly Winfield resident she took care of and used the victim's credit card to make purchases.

Winfield police announced Thursday that a 17-count indictment was filed in DuPage County court Tuesday against Vinia Buckley, who is charged with aggravated identity theft, financial exploitation of the elderly and unlawful use of a credit card.

The criminal charges resulted from a five-month investigation that began when a family member of the victim contacted authorities, according to a Winfield police news release.

Police say Buckley, the Winfield resident's caregiver, used the victim's existing credit card and obtained new credit, using the victim's identity in order to make unauthorized purchases.

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Buckley.
