Lisle Library launching Summer Read program with '60s party

Lisle readers who look forward to spending their summer days with good books will want to head to the library this weekend for the Summer Read program's launch party.

Registration for "Then and Now," Lisle Library's Summer Read program, begins with the launch party starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the library, 777 Front St., Lisle.

In addition to the opportunity to register for the library's summer reading programs for adults, teens and kids, patrons of all ages can enjoy ice cream served by an old-fashioned Good Humor Man and live music provided by 1960s group Ivory Tower.

"We're celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, so we've planned some 1960s-style fun for our patrons," said Nicole Mueller, communications coordinator. "We're going to have classic games like Wooly Willy, Operation, and a giant Kerplunk for kids. Adults can reminisce by visiting our old-fashioned ice cream truck and enjoying some '60s rock."

The summer reading program runs Saturday, June 6, to Friday, July 30, and is divided into three age groups so readers of all ages can participate in a program tailored for them.

Adults and teens who log a minimum of four books/audiobooks are eligible for prizes, and those who read more than four books increase their chances of winning a grand prize.

The kids program challenges younger readers to read for 20 minutes a day, and participants will receive prizes as they reach specific minute milestones.
