214@100: Wheeling leads in science because its teachers do

Between visits from the governor to the U.S. Secretary of Education, Wheeling High School has established itself as a model school.

Many of its accomplishments were made possible by the hard work of teachers like Lisa Del Muro, who have become educational leaders. In her 13 years at Wheeling, Del Muro pioneered the school's unique nanotechnology programs, sent students to various national science competitions and has completed a fellowship program with NASA.

Through that program, she worked with research based on NASA developments, collaborated with other teachers from across the nation and twice has presented her work to the Illinois Science Teachers Association.
