Regional titles for Antioch, Lake Zurich

Antioch's softball team survived a strong test from Resurrection to earn another showdown with Wauconda.

Jessica Pedersen's bases-loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Sequoits a 3-2 win over the 10th-seeded Bandits in Monday's Class 3A Antioch regional final.

Antioch (26-9) will play Wauconda (25-11) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grayslake Central sectional semifinals. The two teams split two games during North Suburban Prairie Division action.

Antioch scored twice in the bottom of the second against Resurrection, which answered with a pair of runs in the fourth.

In the Antioch seventh, Jaclyn Garrity led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Amanda Costain. Hannah Skoog singled Garrity to third, and when Taylor Schiltz (2-for-4) beat out a groundball to shortstop, the bases were loaded.

Petersen then hit a blooper to the right side, scoring Garrity with the winning run.

Jill Foote had a triple and 2 stolen bases for Antioch, while Hannah Cook picked up the win in relief.

Lake Zurich 13, Glenbrook North 3: Lake Zurich rolled up 19 hits en route to a breezy win over Glenbrook North in the Buffalo Grove regional championship game. The Bears next face Stevenson at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Class 4A Glenbrook South sectional semifinal.

Sarah Schnecker led the way with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate while Melissa Goldberg added 3 hits.

Brittney Pettinger, Vanessa DiVincenzo, Jessie Puccinelli, McKenna Zobel and Kate Malek each had 2 hits. Both of Zobel's hits were doubles.

Malek was also the winning pitcher. She rolled up 5 strikeouts and allowed only 2 walks in six innings.
