Streamwood teen wins High School Leader Award

Arielle Christopher, 16 and a sophomore at Streamwood High School, has been awarded the Hanover Township's Committee on Youth 2015 High School Leader Award.

She received the honor at the annual Celebration of Leadership reception held at Hanover Township Senior Center Veteran's Hall on May 28.

Christopher was introduced at the reception by Lenard Henderson, the legislative district director for the office of state Rep. Fred Crespo. Henderson said he first became aware of Christopher's outstanding efforts going back to when she was only 9 — when Crespo sponsored Illinois House Resolution Number 1507 to recognize her for organizing the Good Deeds Toy Drive that benefitted the St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

Hanover Township Trustee Steve Caramelli gave Christopher a plaque for winning the 2015 High School Leader Award and she also got a Certificate of Recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives in commemoration of her efforts and dedication.

“It is an honor to receive the High School Leader Award,” said Christopher. “I just want to say thank you to the people who have supported me in the community.”

Christopher has also won the Silver President's Volunteer Service Award and an Illinois Senate Certificate of Recognition for Volunteerism. She is a Community Ambassador for Alexian Brothers Women's & Children's Hospital Youth Board, a 2015 Hanover Township Youth Volunteer Service Award Nominee, and she holds the title of Northern Illinois Scholarship Program Social Ambassador Queen 2015.

The High School Leader Award winner must be a high school student who lives in Hanover Township and has been a role model to others, who has been actively involved in the community showing initiative, and who has used methods that demonstrate genuine leadership.
