Carpentersville man accused of child sex assault

Bail was set at $500,000 Friday for a Carpentersville man accused of sexually assaulting a girl younger than 13 that he knew in August 2014.

Dennys A. Hernandez, 24, of the 3000 block of Wakefield Drive, was arrested this week and faces charges of predatory criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse of a child under 13, according to Kane County court records.

If convicted of the most severe charge, Hernandez faces between six and 30 years in prison with no chance of probation. He also would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Hernandez is next due in court June 11 and must post $50,000 to be released from the Kane County jail while the case is pending.

Hernandez was on probation for felony burglary at the time of his arrest, records show.

He was arrested in October 2014 and charged with home invasion and aggravated battery from a May 2014 incident, records show.

In April 2015, he pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of burglary and was sentenced to two years of probation, according to court records.

If a judge rules Hernandez violated his probation, he could be resentenced from three to seven years prison on the burglary charge.
