Chicago man pleads not guilty to reckless homicide in I-55 motorcycle crash

A 44-year-old Chicago man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence of drugs in a crash that killed a motorcyclist in April on on I-55 near Burr Ridge.

Prosecutors said Fawzi Ottman, of the 4000 block of West Potomac Avenue in Chicago, had opiates, heroin and marijuana in his system about 5 p.m. on April 17 when he was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck a motorcycle being driven by Daniel Dacanay of Chicago.

Prosecutors say Ottman was driving fast southbound on I-55 near County Line Road, swerving in and out of traffic, and driving on the shoulder before he struck Dacanay. Upon impact, Dacanay was pushed into the vehicle in front of him, while Ottman continued to drive for almost 200 feet, dragging Dacanay at least part of the way before coming to a stop.

Ottman is being held in the DuPage County jail on $750,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 16 in front of Judge George Bakalis.
