Hanover Park couple indicted after heroin death

Two Hanover Park residents have been indicted on charges of drug-induced homicide in the heroin overdose death of a 32-year-old Bartlett man in March.

Prosecutors say Hallie Manning, 44, of the 5700 block of Dutch Mill Court, provided John Smirz with less than a gram of heroin after which Smirz overdosed and was later found dead outside her home March 9.

Authorities have said they believe that after Smirz died, 44-year-old Anthony Brown, who lives with Manning, took Smirz's body out of the home and left it in the snow in a common area.

An autopsy revealed that Smirz died from a heroin overdose.

Manning and Brown also were indicted on charges of concealment of a homicide and delivery of a controlled substance. Brown was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Both are being held at the DuPage County jail on $2 million bail.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
