Woodmen of the World donate flag, flagpole for Leyden's fields

Woodmen of the World Insurance Society, chapters 6136, 144, and 280, donated and installed a new flag and flagpole for District 212's new athletic fields. The fields are directly across the street from East Leyden High School, in Franklin Park.

The flag and flagpole were dedicated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony that unveiled the new 11-acre athletic facility that includes two softball fields, two combination football/soccer fields, a state of the art concession building, and tables and chairs for outdoor eating.

During the event Audrey Fanselow, a Leyden employee and a Chapter 6136 representative, said the three chapters partnered with the goal of dedicating the flag and flagpole to first responders and members of the armed forces.

"We purchased this flagpole and flag and had it installed on this new sports field in honor of the men and women of this community who risk their lives every day to keep us safe," said Fanselow at the ceremony. "That includes police officers, firefighters, and emergency rescue personnel. We also want to honor the heroes and victims of terrorists' attacks and members of the armed forces protecting our nation."

At the ceremony, athletic director Randy Conrad says the district is grateful to the society for donating to the project.

"The annex (fields) has allowed us to expand and update our facilities. It will benefit both Leyden and the community," Conrad says.
