St. Edward wins regional opener

St. Edward 2, Aurora Central Catholic 1: No. 6 seed St. Edward scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to avoid ACC's upset bid in the semifinals of the Class 3A Glenbard South regional. Winning pitcher Lindsay Zdroik doubled and scored on an Allison Stratman double to tie the game 1-1, With two outs, Stratman scored the go-ahead run on an error on Shannon McShane's grounder. Ryann Scully had 2 hits for the Green Wave (21-8-1). Zdroik (15-6-1) allowed 6 hits, struck out 12 and walked 2. St. Edward will take on the winner of Thursday's Glenbard South-Guerin winner in the regional title game at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Wheaton North 9, Larkin 0: In the Class 4A Glenbard West regional, the Royals (6-25) got 2 hits from Bella Aguinaga and a single from Haley Bohne but that was all the offense they could manage in their season-ending loss. Emily Rojo was the losing pitcher.
