Waukegan man charged with soliciting teen over social networking app
A 26-year-old Waukegan man faces up to five years in prison after his arrest Tuesday on accusations he used a mobile social networking app to plan a sexual encounter with what he believed was a 14-year-old boy.
Olvin Renato Mendoza, of the 1500 block of Muirfield Avenue, is charged with two counts of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 3 felony, and a misdemeanor count driving without a valid license, according to Lake County Sheriff's police.
Authorities said that at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mendoza requested to meet with who he believed was a teenage boy to engage in sexual acts. The boy was actually a detective with the Lake County Sheriff's Office Cybercrimes Unit posing as a teenager online.
Mendoza, who faces a maximum of two to five years in prison if convicted of the felony charges, is being held in the Lake County jail on $100,000 bond, sheriff's police said. He is scheduled to appear in court June 1.
