Dundee Lions collecting donations for diabetes
Dr. Arcadio Dumpit of 7 Hills Health Center in East Dundee gave a presentation at a recent Dundee Lions Club meeting to inform members on the prevention and treatment of diabetes. It was done to kick off the club's collection of donations for Diabetes Awareness Day on Saturday, May 30, throughout Dundee Township.
Diabetes is one of the major charities the Lions raises money for by soliciting donations. People with diabetes are at risk of losing sight due to diabetic retinopathy.
It is the leading cause of vision loss in adults of working age, as it is one of the main contributors to blindness. It is estimated 371 million people worldwide have diabetes, a global epidemic that is expected to affect 552 million by 2030.
The Lions will be collecting donations in West Dundee at the Jewel, 1250 W. Main St., and Walgreens, 810 W. Main St., and in East Dundee at Dunkin' Donuts, 892 E. Main St., and The Manor Restaurant, 68 Railroad St. Collection also will be done at the Walgreens in Carpentersville. All of the money will go directly to the diabetes foundation.
The Lions meet regularly in the evening at the Village Squire in West Dundee. Individuals wanting to find out more about the Lions are invited to attend a meeting. Call Jim McClung, president, at (847) 567-7127 for a reservation.
