Mayors' Challenge aims to end veteran homelessness

North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham on Wednesday will join fellow mayors and other leaders across the county to accept The Mayors' Challenge, an initiative to end veteran homelessness. Rockingham and local members of the Illinois General Assembly, county board members and a representative from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. at the city of North Chicago building, 1850 Lewis Ave. The initiative centers on providing people experiencing homelessness with housing as quickly as possible, as well as services as needed. North Chicago also is teaming with Lake County in the Zero: 2016 Campaign to end homelessness.
