Mundelein parade canceled minutes before start

Concerned about inclement weather, Mundelein officials canceled the town's annual Memorial Day parade just minutes before its scheduled start Monday morning.

The parade was supposed to begin at Hawley Street and Brice Avenue and travel to Memorial Park. But at 9:50 a.m., 10 minutes before the start, officials called it off.

People already lined up on the parade route were told to disperse, and the police department made an announcement on its Facebook page.

Additionally, a ceremony that had been planned for Memorial Park was moved to the gym at Sandburg Middle School.

Rain fell for about 20 minutes Monday morning in Mundelein, Village Administrator John Lobaito said.

Mundelein wasn't the only suburb with a canceled parade. Arlington Heights officials decided Friday to call off its event because of the weather forecast.
