White Sox' next retired number? Go with Ozzie's 13

Paul Konerko on Saturday became the 10th White Sox player to have his uniform number retired.

The obvious question is, who's next?

Odds are, Ozzie Guillen is on deck.

There is a growing call for Guillen to return as manager, but his past performance in the dugout and as a Sox player warrant No. 13 being retired.

"We'll see," said Guillen, who was at U.S. Cellular Field for Konerko's rousing ceremony. "I mean, I hope that happens one day. No. 13, if that ever comes, I hope I'm still alive."

Guillen managed the White Sox from 2004-11 and was 678-617, along with winning the World Series in '05.

Guillen played for the Sox from 1985-97 and ranks among franchise leaders in games played (1,743), hits (1,608), triples (68) and total bases (2,056).

If Konerko had a vote, Guillen's uniform number would be retired.

"I'm an Ozzie guy," said Konerko, who dropped by the White Sox' dugout for another visit before Sunday's loss to the Twins. "I'll stick up for Ozzie through and through. The guy took care of me and we won together.

"A lot of people, I know things went down the wrong way. Some of it is his fault, whatever. He was good to me and I'll always be on his side."

Power outage:

The Sox headed into Sunday tied for last in the major leagues with 26 home runs.

"It's not been what we wanted so far, but you're looking at guys and their track records of what they've done in their careers and you're expecting some more home runs out of them," manager Robin Ventura said.

Jose Abreu hit a solo homer Sunday, his seventh of the season and first since May 9.

"There's more there, and we know that," Ventura said. "This is a rough stretch for him, but he homered today and you hope that means good things to come."

Mystery starter:

When the White Sox play a makeup doubleheader at Baltimore on Thursday, Chris Sale gets the ball in Game 1. As for the Game 2 starter against the Orioles, the Sox are likely to bring up a minor-league pitcher.

Erik Johnson is one candidate; he is 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA at Class AAA Charlotte. The right-hander ranks fourth in the International League with 43 strikeouts.

Chris Beck appears to be the other starting candidate. Also pitching for Charlotte, the right-hander is 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA.

Hawk on DL:

TV broadcaster Ken "Hawk" Harrelson is going to miss the White Sox' entire 11-game road trip due to a minor surgical procedure. Chuck Swirsky, the Bulls' radio play-by-play announcer, fills in for Harrelson and joins Steve Stone in the booth.

Rust factor:

Hector Noesi makes his first start in more than two weeks when he takes the mound against the Blue Jays tonight in Toronto.

In 2014, Noesi got used to long stretches between outings.

"Last year, I missed all of April and then I went to start and that was good," Noesi said. "I've got to be ready for whenever they want me and whatever they want me to do."

In six games this season (4 starts), Noesi is 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA.
