High winds predicted for Memorial Day

Those who plan on wearing hats to Memorial Day parades take note, gusting winds across the Chicago area could reach more than 50 miles per hour on Monday according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph across northern Illinois starting after daybreak on Memorial Day. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the winds may being gusting from 40 to 45 mph with the potential for 50 mph or even higher, according to the Chicago office of the Weather Service. The winds will gradually ease during the mid to late afternoon.

One benefit of the high winds will be the warmer air they bring to most areas, where the high temperature is expected to be in the mid to upper 80s.
