Softball: Fox Valley roundup Saturday, May 23

Dundee-Crown's softball team rolled to two wins over Waukegan Saturday, 15-0 and 8-0, to enter the postseason with 16 wins, the most the Chargers have had since winning 17 games in 2002.

In the opener, freshman Sydney Ruggles was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI and also picked up the win in the circle by pitching the first 3 innings and allowing just 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and a walk.

Casey Weeks had a home run and a double for D-C, while Claire Weeks, Isabel Rodriguez, Casey Weeks, Rachel Chlopek, Danielle Pautz and Lisa Jaskowiak each added 2 hits.

In Game 2, Casey Weeks had 2 hits including another home run, and 3 RBI. Jessica McVicker had 3 hits with a double while winning pitcher Kayla Sjodin, Rodriguez and Chlopek each had 2 hits and Ashley Czerwinski added a double for the Chargers (16-10). Sjodin struck out 8 and walked 2 while allowing 4 hits in 6 innings.

Lincoln-Way East 5, Cary-Grove 0: The Trojans (10-20) managed just 4 hits in this loss at the Bandits Jamboree in Rosemont. Caitlyn Adams was the losing pitcher.

Hampshire 15, Johnsburg 9: Aly Snider and Haley Widmayer each had 4 hits with doubles and Ellie Lapi added 3 hits with a double as Hampshire (13-16) won a nonconference slugfest. Peyton DeChant and Joslyn Nelson (2B) each added 2 hits for the Whip-Purs while Lauren Egger and Radann Shank each had a double. Nelson was the winning pitcher.

Huntley splits: The Red Raiders beat Oswego 9-1 but fell to Joliet West 9-7 in games played at Joliet West. In the win, Autumn Kasal (2-for-3, 2B, HR, 3 RBI), Shannon Walsh (3-for-3), Megan Larson (3B, 3 RBI) and Haley Spannraft (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) led the way for Huntley (22-8). Tiffany Giese picked up the win. In the loss to Joliet West, Giese and Larson were each 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Giese was the losing pitcher.

Antioch 10, Bartlett 1: The Hawks (20-10-1) made 5 errors in this loss at the Bandits Jamboree in Rosemont. Danielle Kirby suffered the loss in the circle but only allowed 2 earned runs.
