Rother's big effort helps Libertyville split

Libertyville's softball team earned a split of its nonconference doubleheader with host Marengo on Saturday.
After Rother's 5-for-5 effort from the leadoff spot in the opener, however, the Wildcats were looking for a sweep. Rother also had a game-saving catch in right field to preserve a 9-5 win. Winning pitcher Hannah Heraty and Lyndsey Lyon homered for Libertyville. Heraty (4 RBI), Lyon, Jessie Lauret, Jamie Stevens and Sarah Hoyer each had 2 hits.
Marengo won the second game 11-8, despite Stevens going 4-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI for Libertyville. Rother was 1-for-4 with a triple, run scored and an RBI. Lauret and Heraty went 2-for-4, and Lizzy Flores was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI.
Grayslake North 12, Woodstock North 4: Kayla Switalla and Jenna Pozezinski homered, as the host Knights wrapped up regular-season play with the Fox Valley Fox win.
Grayslake North received 2 hits apiece from Pozezinski (3 RBI), Katie Moats (2 RBI), Jenny Moore and Lauren Olsen. Moore's 2 hits were both doubles. Pozezinski and Moats also doubled.
Pozezinski pitched 4 innings for the win, striking out six and allowing just 1 run.
New Trier 7, Lake Zurich 6: Maggie Hilton was 2-for-3 and Brittney Pettinger went 2-for-4 for the Bears in their nonconference loss.
Pettinger, Amanda Guercio and Sarah Schnecker (2 RBI) all doubled for Lake Zurich.
Lake Park 11, Lakes 6: The Eagles led 5-0 after five innings, before the Lancers scored 7 runs in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Rachel Becker went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Lakes. Cassidy Schaar doubled and knocked in a run.
