St. Edward wins sectional 800 relay

St. Edward's 800-meter relay team and Westminster Christian junior Zach Anderson were big winners Friday night at the Class 1A Seneca boys track sectional.

The Green Wave quintet of Dwayne Allen, Enrique Mancera, Albert Lopez and Alex Uscila won the 800 relay in a time of 1:35.21, nosing out second place Mooseheart which ran a 1:35.66.

Anderson won the shot put title with a throw of 48 feet to punch his ticket to next week's state finals in Charleston, which begin on Thursday for Class 1A.

In the Class 2A sectional at Richmond-Burton, Hampshire sophomore Douglas Stuehler advanced to state by finishing second in the long jump (20-10.25). He will be joined in Charleston by sophomore teammate Jacob Oury, who ran a 9:44.01 in the 3,200 to finish fourth but make state qualifying time.

Hampshire also qualified senior Andy Pederson in the 300 hurdles. He finished third in 40.13 and also bettered the qualifying standard.
