Cary Physical Therapy owner presents injury prevention program to focus martial arts

Deb Gulbrandson, owner of Cary Physical Therapy, recently presented a program on injury prevention to members of the Weightless Challenge of Focus Martial Arts.

Gulbrandson's talk centered on the importance of mindfulness in preventing injuries. As we work out, we may be focused on increasing weights or reps but at the expense of correct technique. This is one of the leading causes of injuries.

Gulbrandson identified typical poor habits which are commonly seen, such as always standing with more weight on one leg than the other. This can lead to weaker muscles on one side of the body as well as increased tightness on the other side.

Tips for improving alignment, increasing balance, and correcting posture while exercising were given.

Cary Physical Therapy offers a free injury assessment for anyone who would like a 30-minute consultation with a licensed physical therapist. To register, call (847) 516-8095, ext. 0.
