Boomers bash ThunderBolts

The Schaumburg Boomers completed a seven-game, season-opening road trip with a 9-1 victory over the host Windy City Thunderbolts in Crestwood on Thursday afternoon.

The Boomers (5-2) had just 1 hit through the first six innings against Frontier League Pitcher of the Week Jake Fisher. But the Boomers chased Fisher in the seventh with 4 runs on 6 hits to open a 4-1 lead. Key hits included Tillman Pugh's 2-run single and RBI hits from Alexi Colon (3 hits, 2 doubles) and Michael Valadez. Ryan Tuntland belted a grand slam in the ninth.

Winning pitcher Eddie Cody (2-0) worked 8 innings and allowed 1 run on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts.

The Boomers (5-2) play their home opener Friday at 6:30 p.m., sending right-hander Edwin Carl (0-0, 9.00 ERA) against lefty Peter Gehle (0-0, 1.93).
