In a pinch, Patino produces for Barrington

With no freshman softball game being played between Barrington and Buffalo Grove on Thursday, Jenna Patino was granted the opportunity to play in the Mid-Suburban League varsity crossover game.

Talk about making the most of her opportunity.

Patino entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the top of the eighth inning with the score tied 0-0.

On the first pitch she saw, Patino belted the ball over the left field fence for her first career home run that led to the Fillies' 1-0 triumph over the Bison.

Barrington ace Keenan Dolezal (25-6) threw a 4-hitter with 13 strikeouts while her counterpart Julia Camardo (17-7) of Buffalo Grove also threw a 4-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the terrific pitcher's duel.

Also getting hits for the Fillies (26-6) were Carly Kordich, Jenna Fingerman and Haley Luczak.

BG catcher Emily Carnes went 2-for-3 with a double for BG (17-8) which also received a double from Dea Barton and base hit by Jasmine Avalos.

Fremd 12, Prospect 5: Prospect nudged ahead 2-0 after two inning.

But after that, Fremd found the potent offense it has displayed so often this spring.

The Vikings scored 5 runs in the top of the third and went on to their 25th win in 31 games.

Prospect went ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the second when Emma Gilhooly walked and Jenny Krengiel singled. Emily Saenz put down a one-out bunt and was safe on an infield error that allowed Gilhooly and Krengiel to score.

The Vikes' 5-run third ws highlighted by a two-out, 2-run single by Julia Wacker (2-for-5, 3 RBI) and two-out, 2-run double by Reagan Schneider.

Prospect answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on freshman Lauren Caldrone's second homer of the spring, a solo blast to left.

Fremd broke the game open in the top of the sixth with 6 singles (11 of Fremd's 13 hits were singles), a walk, and an error. Delilah Malczewski was 2-for-4 for Prospect while teammates Rachel Trebswether, Casey Lenski and Ally Schuldt had the other hits for Prospect (10-17).

Nikki Kehoe (11-4) posted the win for Fremd. Freshman Jessica Mazur also doubled for the Vikes.

"We hung right in there with a great team for most of the game," said Prospect coach Jim Adair. "This was a lot closer game that the final score shows, but it's really hard to keep Fremd off the bases. I thought Jenny Krengiel (3-4) pitched very well and battled the whole game." '

Palatine 15, Wheeling 4: Emily Griffin (4-for-4, RBI), Nora Walsh (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Victoria Parrott (2-for-5, 2 doubles), Gabriela Kozlowski (2-for-3, 2 doubles, RBI), Brooke Bauer (2-for-3, home run, double, 3 RBI) were the offensive leaders for visiting Palatine (11-18).

Erin Davis struck out seven as the winning pitcher, while Dakota Medrano had three for Wheeling (4-20).

Wisconsin-Whitewater recruit Nikki Mikosz had a big day for the Wildcats as the senior went 4-for-4 with a home run.

Lauren Hart was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI while Megan Olsen had a hit and a RBI. Teammates Alexa Orlando, Karlie Orlando and Medrano also had hits.

Hoffman Estates 15, Rolling Meadows 6: Senior Caitlyn Farina belted 2 homers while going 3-for 5 with 5 RBI and 2 runs for the visiting Hawks (12-17).

Other top hitters for Hoffman were Tracy Osimowicz (4 RBI, 3 doubles, 3 runs), Jordyn Fera (4-for-5, home run 2 runs, 2 RBI), Mary Bean (3-for-5, double, RBI, 2 runs) and Alyssa Galan (home run). Giselle Velazquez and Charlotte Allan also doubled for the Hawks.

Allan (4-8) earned the win, striking out six in the first five innings. Lauren Hattory also had 6 strikeouts for Meadows (2-25).

Leading the Mustangs' offense were Megan King (2-for-3, 3 RBI, double) and Amanda Elkins (2 RBI).
