Second day of protests expected as McDonald's shareholders meet

Protesters are again expected to take to the streets in a call for $15-an-hour minimum wage as McDonald's shareholders meet at corporate headquarters in Oak Brook.

The protests come as McDonald's fights to hold onto customers amid intensifying competition from smaller rivals and changing tastes. CEO Steve Easterbrook, who stepped into the role in March, has said he wants to transform McDonald's into a "modern, progressive burger company."

Thursday will mark Easterbrook's first shareholder meeting as CEO.

Thousands of protesters marched around McDonald's Oak Brook headquarters Wednesday. Oak Brook police say there were no arrests.

Authorities estimated up to 2,000 people took part in the demonstration, some carrying signs declaring, "We are worth more."
